Week #18 (1/18/21 -1/22/21):
This week was productive which brought a more motivational light on reaching out to professionals. I was feeling a bit unmotivated and overcome by the fact that I was not able to make the progress I intended in terms of professional outreach in the previous week. Of course, I knew the only way to overcome this to just do “the contacting” with utmost quality and timeliness. But this was not enough for me to reach out to professionals. I often thrive on verbal motivation and advice, so naturally, I consulted my Independent Study and Mentorship teacher for any new strategies that I should adopt in order to get more positive feedback from professionals. I took her word of encouragement and went right to work once again. I contacted my very first interviewee, the campus architect at UNT, and an environmental activist and project manager in California. With my conversation with Ms.Hill, an environmental activist, I learned more about the service perspective of environmentalism. Though I was not directly related to her work, we connected over the topic of composting. As I was brainstorming ideas for my final product, I came across the idea of building and designing a compost hub at centennial high school. Coincidentally enough, Ms.Hill was working on a similar project. I hope to work with Ms.Hill more in the future if I do decide to pull through with the “Compost Hub” idea. I was happy to look back and see that my worry started turning into positivity as I continued to persevere. Next week I hope to have three more interviews and hopefully get a positive response in terms of mentorship. But for now, here is a picture that represents my week!
