Spring Break Work

Week #23 (3/08/21 - 3/12/21):

During spring break, I decided to get a head start on my project and meet with a few texas architects.

First, I decided to look into what really makes a board game enjoyable. There are three components: competition, a goal for success, and complexity. A game should not be so complex that it is difficult to understand, especially with a topic as detailed as sustainable building, and there should be a consistent theme that connects the goals for success and the competitors. With these in mind, I decided to write some of the rules of the game over break. I broke out a notebook and scribbled down all the ideas that came to mind: game objectives, point systems, categories, and competition rules. When I felt satisfied with all the ideas that I had jotted down, I decided to create a google doc with the categories of points on the LEED scorecard to write important notes. Though not all the rules are confirmed and more details need to be added, this was a good starting point for my product.

In addition to starting on my board game, I talked to Samantha Markham and Alayna Skorge, both architects from Stantec. I wanted to learn more about their architectural experiences in Texas, especially schools. I was introduced to the ACE program and I was encouraged to experiment with ideas I was interested in: especially architectural technology. AutoCAD and Revit are commonly used technologies that I should go out and explore.

This week I would like to focus on finalizing the layout and rules for my game, researching one other category of the LEED scorecard, and making sure to keep in touch with my connections. Here is a picture of some notes I took in my notebook!
