Week #10 (11/02/20 - 11/06/20):
This week I concentrated on my original work, research speech, and interviews. I spoke with Mr.Brinkley, an architect in North Carolina, in the beginning of the week. I was able to better understand what it is like to have a firm and tackle a variety of responsibilities. Mr.Brinkley pointed me to a variety of ways I could gain experience as a high school student. He recommended I look at the Dallas chapter of the Institute Architecture for internship opportunities, and he also recommended becoming a LEED green associate. There is no age limit to become a LEED associate other than studying and passing the exam of course. I also learned that after passing the green associate exam, you must continue studying and educating yourself by gaining leadership experience through the chapters established locally. After meeting with Mr.Brinkley, I met with Mr.Mesquita, a research assistant with the DARPA-funded CATCH (Characterizing and Tracking College Health) study. I was able to discuss the importance of indoor air quality in construction! Mr.Mesquita referred me to other potential interviewees and books I can look at to learn more about material selection in sustainable architecture. With my original work, I was able to locate a website database provided to me by my architecture teacher. With this, I started an original work page outlining my book and its chapters. With my research speech I created an overview of what I have learned through my interviews and research. Next week I hope to complete the introduction of my sustainable alternatives book.
